Treat Adeosun resignation as fake news presidency

The Presidency on Friday described as fake news the purported resignation of Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, as a member of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
A reliable source from the presidency, who preferred not to be named, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that he was in contact with the minister’s aides who confirmed to him that Adeosun reported to work today contrary to the media reports.
He, therefore, urged members of the public to disregard the resignation story as the minister was still part of the federal cabinet.
Similarly, a senior staff of the Federal Ministry of Finance, who also preferred to remain anonymous, dismissed the report on the resignation of the minister.
He, however, stated that the ministry would soon issue a statement to clarify the issue.
NAN reports that some traditional and social media outfits had on Friday reported that Adeosun had resigned from President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet over the controversy surrounding her NYSC certificate.
The report alleged that the minister tendered her resignation letter to the office of the Chief of Staff to the President.
“She considers her position no longer tenable in the cabinet. She also thinks she’ll be a liability to President Buhari’s re-election plans if she stays on, hence the resignation”, one of the social media allegedly quoted a source in the presidency
