Olympic Committee appoints Oba of Ikateland as Patron
The Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) has appointed the Elegushi of Ikateland, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi (Kusenla III) as the patron of the Olympic family in Nigeria.
Confirming this appointment was the President of the NOC, Engr Habu Gumel when he led members of the Committee on a courtesy visit to the Elegushi’s palace in Lagos.
Engr Gumel said the appointment of the revered Monarch as a Patron is in recognition of his outstanding contribution to sports development and humanity in general since his ascension to the throne.
The President added that the Nigeria Olympic Committee is aware of the various interventions Oba Elegushi has made to different sport federations in the country and this makes him a natural choice as Patron of the NOC, alongside other eminent Nigerians that have been so appointed.
In response while accepting the appointment, Oba Saheed Elegushi thanked the NOC for finding him worthy to be a Patron of the Club, noting that sports remain a major unifying factor for the citizens and must enjoy the support of all well-meaning individuals.
“We must continue to support sporting events and bodies like the NOC if truly we want to ensure lasting peace in the country. I know how passionate our people are when it comes to sports and it is for this reason I always lend a helping hand and support sporting events and initiatives, with a view to improving on our peaceful co-existence as a people”, the Monarch stated.
Oba Elegushi thanked the team for the honor and assured them of his support towards the investiture ceremony that will hold at a later date.
