As Curtain Draws on 2018 Summer Tennis Clinic, Mrs Akeredolu Says the State will become a Tennis Hub.
The wife of the Ondo State Governor, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu has restated that Ondo State will soon become a tennis hub just as she stressed that the dreams of initiating the tennis clinic has begun to yield result.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2018 Summer Tennis Clinic for children between 4 and 13 years old, Mrs. Akeredolu said the Summer Tennis Clinic has been producing champions thus the need for the people to continue to pursue such citizen driven initiatives that will afford the government the opportunity to embark on bigger life changing projects for its people.
“Like I had said, our people must imbibe the culture of doing things for themselves and not just waiting for the government. The Government is you and I.
” Everything you see here today, the good people of Ondo State made it happen.
“It is a thing of joy that we have been able to put this event together for our children without waiting for the government. If we are able to do this on our own, I think the government will have the chance to face bigger things that would impact the lives of its people.
It is at this young age that we can catch them young. Everybody is happy; the children are happy. My dream is for these children to continue to be champions”, she added.
The Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu ably represented by his Deputy, Bar. Agboola Ajayi while declaring the 2018 edition of the Summer Tennis Clinic closed applauded the First Lady for her unwavering effort towards child development in the state.
He noted that the Summer Tennis Clinic was only one out of her many initiatives while mentioning the just concluded BEMORE Summer Bootcamp for Naija Girls wherein over 400 young girls were trained In ICT, Solar Energy and Life-changing skills.
Hon. Agboola also promised that the State Government will always do her best to help in any way necessary.
Highpoint of the event featured the presentation of certificates to the training participants and trophies to the winners of the men’s Doubles, Moses olamilekan and Imole Adisa, and the winner of the Ladies’ Single, Aderonke. Little Ayomide Folorunsho, the youngest participant at the clinic also received a racket.
Earlier in his address, Otunba Tajudeen Akinyemi thanked everyone on the team for their supports. He observed that without such collaborative efforts, not much would have been achieved.
The event also featured demonstration matches between participants of age 4-7 and 8-13 and an exhibition match between the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and his wife, Arabirin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu.
Some of the beneficiaries, Alade Oyindamola and Olanrewaju Lateef thanked Mrs. Akeredolu for coming up with the initiatives saying their summer break was indeed eventful.
While promising to use their newly acquired skill to the best of their abilities, they also expressed appreciation to their parents for believing in them and called other parents to encourage their wards to participate in the Summer Tennis Clinic come next year.
The event also culminated in donations from the Office of the Wife of the Governor, the Nigeria Tennis Federation and other well meaning citizens towards the sustainance of Summer Tennis Clinic.
Also gracing the event were the Former Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan, the SSA to the Governor on Women Affairs, Mrs. Titi Adeyemi among others.
