OPEN LETTER TO HIS EXCELLENCY, ALHAJI YAHAYA BELLO ON ALLEGED ENDORSEMENT SPREE IN KOGI STATE POLITICAL FIRMAMENT.

Your Excellency, With recent happenings in Kogi State, I am constrained to write this open letter to your Excellency to remind you of events of the past and the danger your alleged endorsement spree of certain individuals for several elective positions portend for your political future as an individual and the collective political sanity of the State. After the news hit town of your decision to tow this path, reactions that have trailed it is enough evidence that it is reactionary and unpopular. Considering the manner you emerged sir, it is appalling that your recent political moves are nothing but attempts to play God. While your right to play godfather with your status as Governor and Leader of your party in the State can be excused on the need to consolidate your power base, doing so in complete disregard of the people’s hopes and aspirations will end an ill-wind that will blow no good. Every permutation and calculation in life is subject to God’s discretion and any attempt by mortals to usurp this divine position at all times harvest agony, pain and shame for those involved because despite man’s show of might when they occupy positions of authority, God is the only Almighty and He reigns in the affairs of all His creations. That is why, putting Him first in all intentions and actions are vital. Your Excellency Sir, you must resist every locust spirit when taking important decisions and rather than envy, I sympathize with the mischief you have to contend with from people who see you as the only route out of political and economic painful emotion caused by consciousness of guilt, shortcoming, or impropriety.  Endorsements done to massage the insatiable ambition of certain individuals contrary to popular will of the people will end in failure. If it is possible within your party, the electorates have the opportunity to express their displeasure in the general election by switching allegiance from a party they see as imposing candidates on them against their wish. Your present position has placed a huge responsibility on you to be a just father to all aspirants in your party and avoid availing some aspirants undue and unfair advantage over others; a level playing field must be created for all aspirants to enable the people’s choice emerge. Any loser in a free, transparent and credible primary will have no justification to rock the boat. But hell hath no fury like an aspirant unjustly deprived of his mandate for an elective political office.    Politics is local and this makes a one-stop solution to political situations impracticable. Because of the unique nature of Kogi State, the diversity must be considered when attempting to take far reaching decisions that affect the people. People mistakenly predicted the outcome of Lokoja/Koto bye election with the failed recall process many believed was instigated by you. I knew and said as much that it was a misplaced assumption. Yes, that election was fraught with lots of absurdities and irregularities but the battle has been won and lost. Because the dynamics are completely different, to forecast the outcome of 2019 election using the Lokoja/Koto bye election as a yardstick will be the highest display of naivety that will end in regrets. Of particular attention is Kogi West Senatorial District where attempts are being made by desperate aspirants to not only sabotage an age long political arrangement but sacrifice same on the altar of their inordinate ambition. The same funny argument that failed in 2015 is being repackaged to justify untainted narcissism robed in desire to serve. It was a still birth last time but in 2019, it will be miscarried due to chromosomal absurdities of the embryo cocooned in the aspiration. Your Excellency sir, majority of your appointees from Kogi West are political paper weights whose vision is not in tandem with yours as captured in the New Direction Agenda. They cannot and will not tell you the truth which is the only good thing they can do for you sir as we move into a delicate political season. You are an Executive Governor sir and not a monarch. You must resist the temptation to see yourself or act as a Royal Majesty even if those around you address you as one. It is not in your power to appropriate the right of the people to decide who should be their leaders, it is wrong and immoral. Sir, devise another means to gauge the people’s feelings outside the sycophantic chorus of your aides and hangers on. It will guide you to do that which is right. The consequences of your dogged determination not to change position on this endorsement issue must be replaced with a reasonable yielding to good reasons to do the right thing. 2019 is going to be quite interesting because it will make some and mar others politically and the outcome of whatever action you take will have a direct bearing on your political future. There are areas your intentions are in conformity with the people’s desires but in areas where the reverse is the case, realign to be on the same page with the people or else, the outcome will be unpleasant leaving you with a feeling of sadness and disappointment. Your Excellency sir, I implore you to wisely be a true democrat because therein lies the possibility for your political redemption. Don’t be deceived by the accolades as those before you got more but realized quite late it was all a ruse.   I pray for divine wisdom and the humility on your part to recognize the Supremacy of God Almighty in the affairs of all men.
