BEFORE UDOM’S DECLARATION TODAY

As Udom declares today to run for a second term, my dear Akwa Ibom people note the following sad facts:

1) Udom had made hunger the cardinal principle of political governance in the last 3 years plus by claiming falsely that the state had no money and denied the great Akwa Ibom people virtually all the benefits of democracy. Money dried up in the state and people went to bed hungry every night.

Yet during this period the state earned about *one trillion naira* from all sources, but Udom chose to starve the state of cash, lying that he was paying non-existing debts. Recall that a few days ago he took back his words and said the state was not owing and that there was no debt overhang holding back his government. So why was he lying all along?

2). The truth is that Udom was stashing away the state funds to be spent on his re-election bid. He had said as much as that for those who are discerning. When he was criticized for failing to develop the state and its people, Udom retorted that he would not depend on projects to win a second term, that he had enough money to buy whoever he wanted, including the national chairman of the APC.

3). Now he has thrown open vaults of the state treasury and is spending mindlessly on rallies, but NOT on infrastructure and education and other social services. Udom is running a government of rallies just for the purpose of further inflating his puffed-up ego.

4). He is doing bazaar with state funds, wooing opposition politicians with billions of naira. Udom will account for our commonwealth soon.

5) What manner of man is this? The state cannot afford this one chance governor for another four years of nightmare.

6). Akwa Ibom people must say tufiakwa to Udom for four more years.
