Former Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP and an elder statesman, Prince Vincent Ogbulafor has assured Otunba Gbenga Daniel of his open support in the race for the National Chairman of the party.
Prince Ogublafor, who described Otunba Daniel as a good friend said he was very happy for his intention to occupy the post he held for three years. PDP, he stressed, will only move forward when directed by credible people.
In his words, Otunba Daniel “is a great man and without doubt, the right man for the job. PDP is currently facing serious challenges and the party needs you at this crucial period”.
The former Chairman stated that he was overwhelmed when he was told of Daniel’s intention to pay him a visit. “When I was told you were on your way to my house for a visit, I know you must come to me anytime you visit the State and here you are. You are a great man and a good man. What I can deduce by your visit today is that you are a real party man and a good politician. I implore you to please keep the flag flying. I am wholeheartedly PDP. You have been governor for eight years and I’m happy you are aspiring to be the national chairman of the party. It is unfortunate that we had the misfortune we had in 2015 but we shall make sure we get it back. As a former governor, I am sure you know where we made mistakes and the steps you are taking are encouraging”.
Assuring of his unreserved backing for Daniel for the post of national chairman, Chief Ogbulafor professed: “I don’t need to contest for delegate. I am an automatic delegate and I want to assure you that you already have my vote. I will vote for you. I say this with all emphasis and I want everybody to know. Count on me and keep working on others and by the grace of God, your aspiration shall come to pass”.
Otunba Daniel, in his response thanked Prince Ogbulafor for his kind words and unprecedented declaration. He recalled the Ogbulafor era as the PDP Chairman with the promise to reenact the good old days and bring back the PDP to its winning ways if elected.
“We thank you for your major contributions and I want to say that you cannot just retire now until the PDP comes back to reckoning. There is no doubt that we still need your support and with the ongoing process, we shall rejuvenate the party and restore people’s hope.

Welcoming Otunba Daniel and his team to his office, the Southeast PDP (BoT) Chairman declared: “No doubt, you are qualified to occupy that post. Your nationwide tour in the quest for national chairmanship of the PDP shows you are a very serious politician. Your visit to Imo State is like homecoming and you are the first person to visit me and tell me of your intention formally. I will present same to the Igbos and I want you to be rest assured that we shall speak with one voice.
Chief Iwuanyanwu, who thanked Otunba Daniel and his team for having that confidence in PDP to restore people’s hope said he cannot leave the PDP at this challenging period. “Seeing the array of people coming out to show interest in repositioning the party means all hope is not lost and it is an act of cowardice to abandon it now. Although I’m not contesting for any elective post now, I will still continue in my advisory roles”.
“I can assure you, in Imo State, we are always united in our decision. When we want to do anything, we do it collectively and we shall go same way when the time comes”.
Speaking further, Chief Iwuanyanwu stated; “I want to use this opportunity to congratulate you on what you did in Ogun State during your tenure as the Governor. It is on record that you accommodated every ethnic group living in Ogun State and that is the Nigeria of my dream. I am looking at a country where everybody can live anywhere in peace and progress.
According to Otunba Daniel, Chief Iwuanyanwu is a great Nigerian who has contributed to the development of the country in no small measures. “Chief (Dr.) Iwuanyanwu’s contributions to our national development cannot be overemphasized as he has touched nearly all spheres of the nation’s landscape. It is a great honour for me to have the opportunity to say this. You remain a great Nigeria. I cannot embark on a tour of the Eastern part of the country without visiting you. I know I am at home because you are one of the founding fathers of the PDP and anywhere we go, it has been gratifying to note that our people are still full of hope for a better tomorrow.
“It is my belief that with the support of personalities like you, those who have left can be brought back and reposition our great party”, he concluded.
