How Integrity and pedigree is pushing Ogun Governorship Race to Abimbola Ashiru

Apparently, of all the aspirants in the gubernatorial race of Ogun State, currently, Otunba Abimbola Ashiru come across as the most reliable and trustworthy for the enviable Oke Mosan office. Before his appointment as honorable commissioner for Commerce and Industry in the state, in 2011, the position can at best be described as unenviable; it was obvious, it would require a magic wand for anyone to transform Ogun to becoming a hub of commerce.

After Governor Amosun appointed him, Ashiru has dutifully reinvented the wheel and repositioned the Commerce and Industry sector of the state to one that boasts of over 500 billion Naira annual revenue.

For those that have dealt with him personally, Ashiru is distinctly described as an urbane man, with depth of character; his astuteness and rear brilliance are also noteworthy.

The Ijebu-Ode-born commissioner visualizes possibilities in every given situation; he is brimmed with ideas and flights of imagination that are too densely cast to be undone.

Until his invitation to serve in the Governor Ibikunle Amosun led administration, Ashiru had risen to the enviable position of Director and Head, Corporate Affairs and Corporate Social Investment at Stanbic IBTC.

The honorable commissioner’s knack for excellence and experience in the finance sector spanning decades, are precursory to his poise to transforming the gateway state into a hub for genuine investors visiting the state.

Before his appointment, there used to be just one industrial park in the state, but Ashiru, initiated and championed the creation of two more industrial parks. Thus, the three senatorial districts of the state, Ijebu and Ogun East, Ogun West and Ogun central, now have their parks.

In a bid to reduce unemployment in Ogun State, Ashiru signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bank of Industry for about N1 billion Naira, with the state providing about N500 million counterparts funding. These loans were made available to SME’s.  That in itself is industrialization.

Abimbola Ashiru has skillfully made his office in public service one that touches the lives of the common man in the state, thus, he cuts across as being time tested and trusted.

Candidly, no other aspirant in the gubernatorial race thus far has that going for them.
