Segun Adewale, a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, leader has declared intention to contest Ekiti governorship election in 2018. A statement from his media office says Adewale revealed his political aspiration to the state’s PDP Working Committee, party local government executives, leaders among others during a state-wide consultation last weekend.

The governorship aspirant reportedly told journalists in Ado-Ekiti, capital of Ekiti, that the poverty facing his people in the state compelled his desire to join the governorship contest.

“I hate poverty with a passion and, by the grace of God, it will be drastically beaten down, if given the opportunity to serve my people. I can’t do it alone but with active human and institutional supports, Ekiti will return to its winning ways in agriculture, human development, education, among others.

“It is an irony that a state which prides itself a fountain of knowledge is one of the poorest in the country. God has imbued us with resources – human, material and intellectual and all these we will harness to create wealth and ensure it is evenly distributed,” Adewale stated.

Moreover, other things the PDP chieftain (Adewale) promised he would do, if elected, technology development, healthcare delivery, industrialization and weaning the state off its financial dependence on the federal government.

“Our manifesto is geared towards building a strong financial capacity for the state will be a model to be copied by other states and even by the federal government,” he said.

Adewale is a businessman and CEO of Aeroland Group of Companies.
