The Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, has restated his firm belief in the restructuring of the country even as he submitted that he was misrepresented in a newspaper report published on Thursday over the same subject.
The Commissioner for Information, was quoted as having said Governor Mimiko was comfortable with fiscal restructuring alone.
Governor Mimiko in a statement by Kayode Akinmade, the Commissioner for Information, said his comment on the position of his Sokoto State counterpart, Aminu Tambuwal, was limited to fiscal federalism.
“Fiscal restructuring is part of the holistic restructuring of Nigeria which includes fiscal and political adjustment. The fact that one welcomes what looks like a shift in position as enunciated by Governor AminuTambuwal does not connote a repudiation of the need for total restructuring.
“For example, the iniquity visited on the nation by arbitrary and unfair creation of Local Government Areas must be revisited as part of the readjustment of the structure of the federation. Other critical areas include, the relationship between the federal government and the states, zones or regions as the case may be; that is, what in the opinion of Nigerians, should be the federating units.
“These and many other issues were addressed at the 2014 confab and it has always been my opinion that opening up all these issues for discussion and consensus, is the only way to curtail the centrifugal forces tending to tear this country apart,” Mimiko said.
