Osun falls into recession – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Osun state chapter, yesterday said the statement by Osun state governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, recently that the state got N55 million from the Federation Account in September has confirmed fear about the economic status of the state.

The party in a statement issued in Osogbo by Prince Diran Odeyemi, its spokesperson, in response to the claim by Governor Aregbesola at the flag off of rehabilitation of Odi Olowo- Ita Olokan road on Friday, said people of Osun deserve to know why Osun got paltry N55 million out of over N2 billion that its peers got.

The PDP said: “we have been saying it long before now that Osun state has been “slaughtered” and eaten up by gluttonous administration that has been in power in the last 5 years. The gimmick early this year was “Jonathan didn’t give Osun money” but now, that cannot sell again, hence the confession.

“Before confession by Ogbeni Aregbesola, three Nigerian Newspapers on Friday, November 20, published allocation table and Osun got N55 million, after all deductions, and came last. Next state to Osun among least earners, got N1.5billion.

“What other signs do we need to see to agree that Osun has completely fallen into recession? But people of Osun deserve to know from their leader how the state got to this quagmire. This leads us to the question that how much is Osun owing? Mr. Governor said the state owes N88 billion. But we insist the amount is far more than this,” the PDP said

It then warned Governor Aregbesola against imposing heavy taxes on people, stressing that the position the state’s economic is at the moment was never cause by them, hence the need they should not be burdened further.
