Opposition party in Osun state, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused Governor Rauf Aregbesola of inflicting hardship on the people of the state, especially civil servants by deliberately withholding bailout funds rather than using it to pay their salaries.
The party, in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Prince Diran Odeyemi in Osogbo yesterday, said the piecemeal mode adopted by state government in paying salaries was a further confirmation that the money had been fixed.
It added that from its findings, workers in the state were last paid half of their July salaries, with all allowances being hitherto enjoyed by them removed, stressing that the retirees are also being treated same manner with many of them still being owed up to 6 months despite release of bailout funds to the state since August.
It then urged the federal government to make it mandatory for Osun state government to provide evidence of payment of salaries with bailout funds as the only condition that will enable it to access its further share of monthly allocation.
Listing Aregbesola’s other channels of waste in the past, Prince Odeyemi said “Let us not forget how this same governor wasted N8billion acquiring his failed, phantom “Opon Imo” and a further N400million in launching the failed project.
“Let us remember his multi- million naira Oodua Children’s Day, the O’ Calisthenics, the firework display, the N.5billion Olajokun Park at Gbongan junction, the annual N100million Isese festival, the monthly multi- million naira “walk to live” jamboree, and all other wasteful ventures that later plunged the state into the current financial mess.”
“All the listed programmes have no beneficial or direct impact on the lives of the people of Osun state but have all combined to wreck the economy of the state and its inhabitants with the state occupying the 24th position in WAEC results, and with snakes taking over Aregbesola’s so-called Olajokun park on which he spent about N500million, just to mention a few.”
” We noticed like all other citizens of Osun state that Aregbesola, who pretended to be sober when he was begging for bailout from the Federal Government, has gone back to his old, reckless ways- one of which is this unconscionable way he has used money meant to pay poor, hungry workers and pensioners to organise an award for his biological mother”
“We noticed this relapse in attitude and character of our Governor since the arrival of the N35Billion bailout money from the Federal Government. His Lagos friends are back in Osun state and the wastages have resumed again in even more frightening dimensions.”
“We pray he will not blame the PDP again after lavishing the money in celebrating his family and friends who also cruise in helicopter and chartered flights at the expense of the state,” the PDP said.
