Safety Measure: Lagos Seals Off Another Company For Non-compliance With Safety Rules
The Director General of the Lagos state safety Commission, Fouad Oki on Wednesday, 7th October, 2015 put a stop-work-order on Cobel Construction Company for non compliance to safety standards during his safety inspection exercise to Lagos Island.
The stop-work-order was issued after series of abatement notices were served with no measure of compliance put in place.
Oki expressed displeasure over the unconcerned attitude displayed by the management of the company in question; stressing that the commission will not fold its arms and watch dutiful citizen and residents of Lagos die or get maimed all in the name of working to earn a living.
In his words, Oki described the experience of a regular casual worker as unfair and vowed that the Commission will not relent in its effort to put thing right in the area of protecting lives and property in the state.
“The inspection exercise is not aimed at stopping companies from making profit or doing business but essentially to give worker the benefit of enjoying the gains of their labour in good health and mental well-being,” Oki explained
According to him, the commission is working on ensuring prompt compliance of Cobel Construction Company and other erring companies facing the stop-work-order to facilitate lifting of the stop-work-order.
Oki called on members of the public to report any safety impediment to the Lagos State Safety Commission at Block 18b Secretariat, Alausa or call 07046494972 for prompt and necessary action on safety matter.
