In a bid to strengthen economic activities and promote the road infrastructural development in the State, Governor Udom Emmanuel has ordered the immediate inspection of some roads in Ikono and Obot Akara Local Government Areas with view of including them in the road construction plan of Akwa Ibom State.
The Honourable Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyang dropped the hint while on inspection tour of Nung Ukim Ikono road up to Mbiafun Nkwono Junction in Ikono Local Government Area.
Noting the deplorable standard of roads from Ikot Mkpe Junction to the College of Arts and Science to Mbiafun Nkwono Junction, Mr. Ephraim Inyang directed the Works Engineers to immediately embark on the grading of the roads for easy accessibility to the school and to come up with road design for inclusion in the state road construction list.
The Works Commissioner took time out to inspect the internal roads in the College of Arts and Science, as well as the school facilities and promised to liaise with the Honourable Commissioner for Education with a view to upgrading some facilities.
The Bursar of the College, Mr. Nsima Ema Uwah who received the Honourable Commissioner expressed happiness over Governor Udo Emmanuel’s plan to construct roads leading to the College noting that the development will, among other things, promote academic excellence and provide easy access to the School.
Mr. Ephraim Inyang also inspected Mbiaso-Nto Edino-Ekwara Asu road in Obot Akara and tasked the Works Engineers to expedite action on the preparation of the road design profile with water channelization and bridges to meet up with the terrain of the area.
He tasked the Works Engineer to immediately construct temporary pedestrian bridges, for the movement of people in the area while the design and reconstruction of the two collapsed bridges along Mbiaso-Nto-Edino-Ekwaro Asu road, are on course.
Mr. Ephraim Inyang who was accompanied on the inspection tour by the Permanent Secretary, Dr, Ifreke Ekpa, Director Civil Engineering, Engr. Effiong Efiakedoho, Engr. Ime Akpan and others disclosed Governor Emmanuel’s eagerness to construct and develop all the roads that would link and open up the state.
Speaking, the Caretaker chairman for Obot Akara Local Government Area, Honourable Emmanuel Amamah who was accompanied by Elder Okopide Uko Akpan lauded Governor Udom Emmanuel’s policy thrust to extend infrastructural development to all parts of the State.
The Council Chairman therefore promised unflinching support and continued loyalty of the people of Obot Akara to the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel, in the State.
