The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel has approved the immediate construction of internal roads and renovation of dilapidated buildings at Cornelia Cornelly College, Uyo. The Commissioner For Works, Mr Ephraim Akparawa Inyang made the declaration Monday when he led key staff of the ministry of works and engineers to assess the state of the college and inspect other places of immediate concern in the state capital. He said that the Governor has ordered work to commence immediately on the internal roads in the schools including the renovation of St. Dominic’s hostel and the Home Economics block for the first phase.
Also accompanied by the Commissioner For Housing and Urban Renewal, Prince Enobong Uwah, My Inyang noted that the decision to construct internal roads and give the dilapidated buildings in the school a facelift was inspired by the promises made by the wife of the Governor and an old girl of the college, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel at the Home coming celebrations by the old girls of the college recently. Mr Inyang charged the contractors to speedily deliver the projects before the start of the new school year in September.
The Commissioner also took out time to inspect and note the several potholes created by the rains in the state capital. He charged the engineers to intensify work on closure of the potholes. He stressed that the present administration pays particular attention to the maintenance of existing roads.
Mr. Inyang ordered the immediate erection of a few electricity poles brought down by nearby trees around Ifa Atai junction. The commissioner also inspected power points that service the street lights in the state capital and noted spots that needed quick intervention and replacement. He admonished the people of the state to be vigilant and watch out for any form of destruction of public infrastructure.
