XENOPHOBIC ATTACKS: AFFECTED NIGERIANS WILL BE COMPENSATED – MUSILIU OBANIKORO (BY KOLA POPSON)

The Nigerian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs 2, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, has promised that Nigerians affected by xenophobic attacks in South Africa will be compensated. He noted this in an interview with Channels Television, while reacting to the ugly incidence in South Africa.
Senator Obanikoro observed that the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Martin Cobham and other delegations have been taking stock of damages done to Nigerians to ensure that adequate compensations are given to them.“We have situations where some of our people lost their shops in this attack. We are taking stock of the damages done to them and we are going to be engaging the South African Government,” the minister said.
Furthermore, he added that the government of South Africa has been annexing different means to put an end to the attacks that have claimed numerous lives, adding that one of the major stakeholders, who had provoked this ugly incidence, has called for a meeting this morning where some of the representatives of the affected countries would be addressed.
In the same vein, senator Obanikoro also noted that some of the traditional rulers will be there to see how they can douse the situation and ensure the safety of Nigerians and other nationals in South Africa. He expressed his displeasure about the incidence, describing it as a shameful situation that has attracted international outcry.
“I think the leaders have seen the need to ensure that the xenophobic attacks do not escalate. The attitude is now more promising and within the next few days we should be able to put this behind us. We are working on how best we can get a lasting solution to the problem,” senator Obanikoro concluded.
