Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola, SAN on Monday approved the appointment of Mrs. Sherifat Folashade Jaji as the 18th Head of Service (HOS) following the retirement of the former Head of Service, Mrs. Josephine Oluseyi Williams who retired from service on Thursday (February 12, 2015).
Making the announcement during a Press Conference at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Lateef Ibirogba said the appointment of Mrs Jaji takes immediate effect.
The Commissioner described Mrs. Sherifat Folashade Jaji, who until her new appointment was the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Establishment, Training and Pensions as a very industrious and hard working public officer, who has contributed so much to the Lagos State Public Service.
The new Head of Service who was born on 10th March 1957 joined the service of the Lagos State Government as an Administrative Officer in October 1980 having graduated in Chemistry from the University of Ibadan the previous year.
She also holds a Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Public Administration from the University of Lagos in 1985 in addition to a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Lagos in 1989.
She was first appointed as a Permanent Secretary in the Civil Service of the State in February 2005, overseeing the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA).
She was thereafter reassigned to the Teachers Establishments and Pensions Office (TEPO) between 2008 and 2011 and later posted to the Ministry of Establishments, Training and Pensions from 2011 where she served until her latest appointment.
Mrs Jaji has also served in several ministries and agencies including the Teaching Service Commission, the General Service Bureau/Public Service Office, State Tenders Board, the Civil Service Commission, the Programmes and Budget Department of the defunct Military Governor’s Office and Political Affairs Department of the Governor’s Office.
The new HOS, who is happily married with children, is also a member of the Institute of Directors (IOD) Nigeria.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy was joined by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor Mr. Hakeem Bello and the Permanent Secretary, Public Service office, Mr. Lekan Akodu.
