Osun tribunal denies changing judgment venue

The Election Petitions Tribunal hearing matters arising from Osun State governorship election held on August 9, 2014 has debunked the rumour that the panel will delver its judgment in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The Secretary of the tribunal, Mr. Adamu Aliyu, told our correspondent on the telephone on Thursday that the judgment would be delivered in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Friday February 6th, 2015.

Aliyu said, “The tribunal is delivering the judgment tomorrow here in Osogbo. Let those who are carrying the rumour go to Akure for their own judgment.

This tribunal carried out their assignment here and the judgment will be delivered here in Osogbo.”

The Department of State Security has also warned residents of the state against engaging in any act of violence before and after the verdict.

The Director of the DSS in Osun State, Mr. Andrew Iorkya, gave the warning in a telephone interview with our correspondent.

He said that operatives of the agency had identified some hotbed of violence which would be properly manned to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order.

He said, “We are prepared for tomorrow’s judgement. We have identified some places which we are going to man, and NSCDC, policemen and soldiers will be on standby.

“We are hearing some disturbing news from Ife but we want to warn trouble makers to leave the state. We won’t allow anybody to disturb the peace of the state.”

The Justice Elizabeth Ikpejime-led tribunal has not been accused of bias from any of the parties involved in the case and one of the counsels to the petitioner, Mr. Nathaniel Oke (SAN), while closing the petitioner’s case hailed the wisdom of the members of the panel who he said had remained ‘clean’ before all the parties.
