INEC: Protesters storm Aso rock over plot to postpone elections

A group of young Nigerians on Thursday stormed the National Council of State meeting at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja to protest against alleged plan to postpone the general elections, which is expected to kick start in nine days time.
The protesters, mostly youths and social media activists, were led by Barrister Solomon Dalung.
They marched from the popular Unity Fountain in Abuja to Aso Villa where the National Council of State meeting was in progress.
Most of the protesters carried different placards displaying various inscriptions such as: “Say no to election postponement.”
Although they were barricaded by the police as they approached the Villa, the messages on the placards were reportedly seen by past Heads of State and state governors attending the meeting.
The protesters were said to have organized themselves from the social media to come out en-masse to protest against the plan to postpone the upcoming general elections.
According to some of the protesters, Nigerians were ready for the elections and there should be no plot to force the Independent National Electoral Commission to postpone the upcoming elections.
They further warned that if the election is postponed, a nationwide protest will be called.
Another protester said the government should encourage and support INEC to ensure a credible polls rather than thinking of postponing the elections.
