The former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, has described the Lagos State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Akinwunmi Ambode, as a “puppet”, who is not fit to lead the state.
Speaking on Monday at the formal flag-off the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign rally held in Ikeja, Obanikoro said that Ambode does not have the capacity to govern a state like Lagos, saying that the state deserves an independent-minded person like Jimi Agbaje as the PDP’s candidate.
“We have a case of the puppet and puppeteer and Lagos people are saying that both of them must be thrown away on February 28. Agbaje is a man of the people and he has the capacity to manage our state,” Obanikoro said.
According to him, “When I was the chairman of Lagos Island, Ambode was a council treasurer and I can tell you that he (Ambode) doesn’t have what it takes to manage a state like Lagos. Ambode was forced to resign as civil servant by the government and we must look at his record.
Also speaking at the rally, Chief Olabode George said that the APC in Lagos had been reckless with the resources of the state over the past 16 years, alleging that the state has being mortgage by former governor, Bola Tinubu.
“We need dedicated, committed leaders with fresh ideas to lead us. Tinubu has mortgaged Lagos. He only expanded the Lekki road built by Baba Jakande and started collecting tolls on it. There must be a change to the recklessness of governance from Tinubu and APC in Lagos State. What has he (Tinubu) done to impact on the people of Lagos and he still has the gut to say President Jonathan is not doing anything.
“We will give them the change they are clamouring for, but I want to implore you to guide your votes and there should be no violence. The police will be there, be vigilant and I know we will defeat them.”
In his speech, Agbaje urged residents to vote for the PDP, promising that the party will give them value for their votes. “The election is for us to win, we will work for it. The people are tired of the APC government because it has no human face, they only think about themselves,” he said.
