While reacting to the issue in Abuja, the Director of Media and Publicity of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, stated that what Governor Fayose said represents his own personal opinion and not that of the party.
The Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday dissociated itself from the paid wrap around advertisement in some national newspapers by the Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, in which he wished the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari, dead.
While reacting to the issue in Abuja, the Director of Media and Publicity of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, stated that what Governor Fayose said represents his own personal opinion and not that of the party.
Fani-Kayode declared that President Goodluck Jonathan, the PDP and its presidential campaign organisation firmly believe in the sanctity of life.
He pointed out that age is not an indication of how long a person will live.
According to Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation: “Fayose expressed a personal opinion, which he is entitled to.
“Governor Ayo Fayose is a distinguished leader of our party. A democratically elected Governor and someone we have great respect and affection for and he released this advert in his own name.
“That represents his (Fayose’s) own personal opinion which he is entitled to.
“What I can tell you on our part, as the Presidential campaign organisation. Is that it does not represent the opinion of the presidential campaign organisation or indeed the president. It represents his personal opinion, which he is entitled to.
“He is somebody we have immense respect for him and he is a leading member of our party.
“For anybody to say that this is the position of the presidential campaign organisation or President Goodluck Jonathan, that will be most unfair.”
Fani-Kayode pointed out that the PDP and its campaign organisation believe in the sanctity of life and as such will not wish General Buhari dead.
His words: “We will never say that because we believe in the sanctity of life. We do not wish him (Buhari) ill, we do not wish him dead, we wish him long life.
“We must continue to show immense respect for General Buhari as and a person and his health.
“We believe it is important to always raise question about facts, you know what these questions are and we will continue t raise them.
“Fayose never said that he was speaking on behalf of President Goodluck Jonathan but for himself and he said that he issued it in his name.”
