Trouble might be looming in Lagos chapter of the All people Congress if the rummors going round that the leader of the party Asiwaju Bola Tinubu plans to overturn the results of some of the primaries of the house of reps members because most of the incumbents lost out either during the election or outrightly withdraw because of the handwriting on the wall.
At lease 13 members representing different parts of Lagos lost out in the primary election held on Sunday to field candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2015 election into the House of Representatives on.
While six of the legislators had stepped down from the race before the primary election commenced, the other seven were defeated by either former local government chairmen who contested for the position or other aspirants.
Those who stepped down include Abike Dabiri-Erewa representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency; Jumoke Okoya-Thomas representing Lagos Island Federal Constituency 1; Monsuru Owolabi representing Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency; Dauda Kako-Are representing Mushin Federal Constituency 1; Ganiyu Hamzat representing Mushin Federal Constituency 2; and Rafeequat Onabamiro representing Badagry Federal Constituency.
Among the other seven who were defeated is Deji Jakande, who was moved from Shomolu, which he earlier represented at the House of Representatives, to Mushin Federal Constituency 1 from where he wanted aspired to be re-elected.
He was beaten in the election by the immediate past Chairman of Odi-Olowo Local Council Development Area, Taofeek Adeyemi Alli, who polled 235 votes against Jakande’s eight votes.
Immediate past chairman of the Apapa local government, Ayodeji Joseph, beat the incumbent Jimoh Adewale to pick the ticket for Apapa Federal Constituency just as the incumbent representative of Oshodi-Isolo Federal Constituency 1 at the House of Representatives, Moroof Akinderu Fatai, was also defeated.
In Agege Federal Constituency, immediate past chairman of Orile-Agege Local Council Devenopment Area, Taofeek Abiodun Adaranijo, flogged the incumbent, Samuel Adejare, and other contestants to win the party’s ticket. While Adaranijo polled 178 votes, another contestant and immediate past chairman of Agege local government council, Jubril Ayodeji Abdul-Kareem, scored 123 votes while Adejare had 86 votes.
In Ojo, immediate past chairman of Ojo local government, Yinka Murisiq Durosinmi, defeated the incumbent, Oluwatoyin Suarau, who came third with 93 votes.
Former Auditor General for Local Governments in the state, Muhammad Mubasiru Hassan, came second in the primary election in Ojo with 117 votes while Durosinmi scored 204 votes.
In Ifako Ijaye Federal Constituency, the incumbent, Yomi Ogunnusi, was defeated by former Special Adviser on Education to Governor Fashola, Elijah Olu Adewale, who scored 250 votes against Ogunnusi’s 82 votes.
In Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency, immediate past chairman of Yaba LCDA, Olajide Jimoh, popularly called JJ won by scoring 492 out of the total 501 votes caste just as former Badagry West council chairman, James Bamgbose, clinched the ticket for Badagry Federal Constituency.
A major defeat was recorded by the son of Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos, Fouad, who was floored by current Special Adviser to Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola on Youths, Sports and Social Development, Dolapo Badru.
They both contested for the seat after the incumbent, Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, withdrew from the race. While Badru scored 128, Fouad 21 votes.
In Surulere Federal Constituency 2, immediate past Chairman of Itire-Ikate LCDA, Hakeem Bamgbala beat incumbent Aliu Kazeem.
Incumbent legislators who won the party’s ticket include Hakeem Abiodun Muniru who won in Oshodi Isolo Federal Constituency 2; Yakubu Abiodun Balogun who won in Lagos Island Federal Constituency 2; Hakeem Gbajabiamila who won in Surulere Federal Constituency 1; Taiwo Adenekan who won in Ajeromi Ifelodun Federal Constituency; and James Abiodun Faleke who won in Ikeja Federal Constituency.
