HON Akinlade speech as he decamp to PDP last week

BEING TEXT OF THE STATEMENT ISSUED BY HON. Akinlade Abiodun Isiaq, CHAIRMAN HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVE COMMITTEE ON SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY ON HIS REUNION MOVEMENT TO THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY ON THURSDAY 10th JULY, 2013 AT OGUN STATE PDP SECRETARIAT, ABEOKUTA.

I feel quite elated to be back today with my numerous supporters and leaders in the fold of the Peoples Democratic Party where I cut my political teeth.

In the words of Richard Paul Evans;
“The sweetness of Reunion is the joy of heaven”

It is with a great sense of nostalgia that I say “eku ile o, se alaafia la baa yin.”I wish to first and foremost congratulate the Governor Elect of Ekiti state Dr. Ayodele Peter Fayoshe for his resounding success at the polls recently. The election of His Excellency, Dr. Fayoshe who is now becoming a rallying point for PDP in the South West, a political lesson and a testimony to the ways of God.

The events of the immediate past as it affects the PDP in Ogun state and indeed the entire country is well known to all of us and one needs not dwell much on it. Quite a number of us political players were forced out of the party by circumstances beyond our control and have had to pitch our tent outside the PDP for political survival. We thank God that the PDP has been able to weather the storm and is now bouncing back as the preferred party of majority of Yorubas and indeed Nigerians under the able leadership of President Goodluck Jonathan and the skillful management of the National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu with all his lieutenants at various levels of the party. In Ogun state, we are beginning to see a new atmosphere of accommodation, internal democracy and respect for rule of law which we hope will be strengthened to fully bring back the party to its past glory. We will like to appreciate the state executives of the party under the able Chairmanship of Engineer Bayo Dayo for this new lease of life.

We also appreciate the Chairman of South West Mobilization Committee, Prince Buruji Kashamu for his immense contribution at moving the party forward. However, we must not deceive ourselves that it’s Uhuru, a lot still need to be done and it’s our hope that the efforts at bringing back all the former members of the party including our former governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel is intensified. With the likes of Senator Jubril Martins Kuye, Senator Ayo Otegbola, Alhaji Sule Onabiyi, Prince Buruji Kashamu and many others too numerous to mention working together , I believe the PDP will be the party to beat in Ogun State. The party should also intensify effort at reaching out to other credible leaders who may not have the tradition of being in PDP but are sympathetic to the government of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Today, I am back at home with my people to be part of the transformation agenda of Mr. President and to contribute my quota to free Ogun state from the strangulating policies of the current government in the state.Let me use this opportunity to call on all political players in Ogun state who are traditionally PDP loyalist but are still operating outside the party for one reason or the other to come back home and join hands in moving the party forward. We owe Ogun state people and generations unborn the sacred duty of providing an alternative government that is people friendly and adopt a broad based prudent sectoral interventions in running the affairs of the state.

The current approach of indiscriminate road expansion, bridge construction and white elephant model schools project at very outrageous cost using short term bank loans and to the exclusion of other critical sectors is not only inimical to the welfare of our people but also detrimental to the future progress of Ogun state. We have a responsibility to rescue our dear state from the current government of Ogun state otherwise even generations yet unborn will never forgive us that we all stood by and watched or continued to dig-in in our small enclaves while the future of our state is being mortgaged. Let us re-unite to re-enact the PDP magic in Ogun state and give our people the government they truly deserve.The PDP is a unique party in many respect. Apart from it’s being the only truly pan Nigerian party it has demonstrated repeatedly its unrepentant commitment to the unity of Nigeria, it is a party built on equal opportunities. Access to elective or appointive office is largely based on what the individual has to offer and not on who your parents are. I have been a beneficiary of this non-discriminatory, equal opportunity policy of the PDP and I remain ever grateful to the party.

As we gradually approach the next general election, I hope to consult with the executives and leaders of the party with a view to offering myself to serve at a higher office.In conclusion, may I sincerely thank the executives and leaders of the PDP at all levels for this great opportunity to once again be part of the biggest, ever resilient party in Africa. I thank my numerous supporters across the state who have remained steadfast with me and who are the ones that have made me to remain politically relevant. Together we shall move to our next level under the big, fully protective and reliable umbrella of the PDP.

PDP……………… Power to the people.
