No Room For Rigging In Osun, PDP Warns APC

Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday sent a note of warning to the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, that there would be no room for rigging in the August 9 Osun governorship election.

It also enumerated four reasons why it won Ekiti governorship election against the stories making the round that the election was rigged.

Addressing journalists in Abuja at the party national secretariat, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh said that the reason APC is kicking against drafting of military to Osun State during the governorship election is for the party to rig the election. Metuh said: “If not for the President’s strict insistent of having a peaceful election, the vote of the people in Ekiti would not have counted, it would have been truncated.

They (APC) don’t want the military to come to Osun so that they can rig the election.” He advised the APC and its candidate to go and campaign as there is still about a month before the election, adding that the security, including the military should not be disturbed when they are preparing to do their work during the election.

Explaining why they won Ekiti state election, he said: “First is the incontrovertible popularity and acceptability of our candidate over and above his opponents, which is essentially the basis of the genuineness of the massively unprecedented crowd that attended his rallies.

“Secondly, was the insistence of our National Chairman, Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu on due process and strict adherence to the principles of internal democracy, the kernel of transparency in the conduct of our governorship primary which led to the emergence of a popular candidate for the election.

“Thirdly, is President Goodluck Jonathan’s respect for and strict adherence to the independence and supremacy of the party and consequential noninterference in party processes including those bordering on primary election.

“The fourth factor is the ability of the PDP as presently constituted, to effectively communicate its unique selling points and the major difference between its content and character and those of the other parties to Nigerians.”
