Hon. Micheal Opeyemi Bamidele, governorship of Labour Party has alleged the All Progressives Congress, APC chapter in Ekiti State of hiding behind series of malicious text messages aimed at maligning his person in the recent days.
Bamidele advised APC to use the remaining days of this campaign era to tackle problems that led to pauperising Ekiti people entrusted in its care.
According to a statement signed in Ado Ekiti yesterday by his Media Aide, Ahmed Salami; Bamidele said the latest text messages circulating within the South/West that he had gone to borrow about three billion naira from Ondo State government for the purpose of this election was malicious.
He described the particular text message as another fruitless effort by APC in the state to rubbish his political profile and demean him in the eyes of discerning Ekiti voters.
While insisting that whatever amount of money spent on his campaign project so far was raised by a special fund-raising committee of Labour Party, he also denied insinuations that he has political godfather anywhere bankrolling his activities.
The statement said “The Labour Party and its governorship candidate Micheal Opeyemi Bamidele are aware of series of damaging and malicious text messages going about town that we have gone to take a loan of three billion baira from Ondo State government. This propaganda effort by APC is fruitless in all ramifications as it is seen just as a figment of their warped political imagination”
“It is a serious act of irresponsibility that anyone could think that a state government with enormous responsibilities could dole out such a whopping sum to an individual to run a campaign. We don’t intend to join issues with these enemies of the people but we are only putting the record straight”
“For the umpteenth time, we repeat that MOB has no godfather like these forces accusing us wickedly of same crime they are guilty of. As a political party, we have operated within confines of stipulated financial regulations by setting up a campaign organization with a fund-raising team. We are not willing to mortgage the future of Ekitis for any form of politics”
“We advise APC that instead of engaging in these frivolities, it should spend the remaining days of this campaign era to redress issues of poverty ravaging Ekiti people under its care”
