Oyo Senator, Femi Lanlehin Dumps APC For Accord Party

The Senator representing Oyo South District, Barrister Femi Akinola Lanlehin has called it quits with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Lanlehin made this known via a letter he addressed to the Senate President on Thursday. While explaining his reasons for joining the Accord Party, Lanlehin pointed out that though he was elected on the platform of the ACN in 2013, the party went on to merge with other political parties. Lanlehin stated in the letter that he was not pleased with the action.

Citing his right to freedom of association, as enshrined in Section 68 (g) of the 1999 Constitution, Lanlehin said “I decided to transfer my membership of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria to the Accord Party with all the rights and duties accruing thereto.”

The letter is yet to be read on the floor by the Senate President.

It is believed in some quarters that Lanlehin might likely renew his aspiration for the governorship of Oyo State. Back in 2011, he was one of the aspirants that emerged from the ACN before the party leadership decided on giving the ticket to the current Governor. Lanlehin was urged to contest for a senate seat.

His exit from the APC has also altered the political equation in Oyo State as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), APC and Accord Party now have a senator each as against the APC’s 2 senatorial seats before his defection.
