Ekiti State governorship aspirant, Ayo Fayose, on Friday, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to visit the state by road in order to see the deplorable nature of Akure – Ado-Ekiti road.
He disclosed that President Goodluck Jonathan would arrive Ekiti on Saturday. He, however, said he would convince the President not to come to Ekiti State by air but by road.
He said the President should come by road so that he could see the condition of the road linking Ondo State to Ekiti, which is a Federal Government road.
The former governor said Jonathan would arrive on June 7, 2014 and would hold the campaign at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium. He subsequently urged all his supporters to come out en masse to receive the President.
Fayose, who spoke at a political rally held along Adebayo Road, Ado-Ekiti, promised to support and empower commercial motorcycle riders (otherwise known as Okada riders) if voted into office.
Fayose, who is running on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, subsequently gave out N500, helmets and sunglasses to each of the hundreds of riders at the scene.
He promised to implement people-friendly policies if elected into office and stressed that he would not ban them from the roads.
The former governor, then visited the office of the Union of Tippers and Quarry Employers of Nigeria in the Oja Oba area of Ado-Ekiti, where he gave N250, 000 to the union and solicited their support.
While promising to be accessible if elected, Fayose urged the lorry drivers to continue to drive safely.
While handing out the money, Fayose maintained that only those with voter’s card would continue to benefit from his largesse.
“Anyone that is following us but does not have a card is useless to us. In fact, that person is like a thug and should not follow us. Anyone without a card should not receive any of my gifts. If you claim to love me, then you must have a card,” he said.
While speaking in Yoruba Language, he said, “The President is coming on June 7 around 10am and all of you must follow me to the stadium. When coming, bring your voter’s card along. You must all come out to greet him. Also, I have begged him that he shouldn’t come in a helicopter but let him come by road from Akure to Ekiti.
“Let him use his eyes to see the road so that he can promise to construct a dual carriage road. However, after the rally, the President can leave by helicopter”
