Oni’s exit: Good riddance —Fayose

Governor of Ekiti State and Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, Gubernatorial candidate in the forthcoming governorship election in Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose, yesterday said he remained unshaken by the defection to All Progressive Congress, APC, by the immediate past governor of the state and former Vice Chairman of PDP in the South West, Segun Oni, an engineer by profession.

Fayose-campaignAt a briefing in Ado Ekiti, Fayose equally accused the APC and Governor Kayode Fayemi of renewed coercion of voters in the state to sell their voters cards.
But Governor Fayemi insisted that it was the PDP and Fayose that were currently going about offering people money to copy the Voter Identification Number, VIN, on their voters’ cards in a bid to clone the cards.

Speaking through the Director General , Ayo Fayose Campaign Organisation, Chief Dipo Anisulowo, Fayose claimed former governor Oni remained an albatross to PDP for so long, alleging that “he brought a lot of misfortune to our party, part of which we are about to reclaim in the coming election. His defection has brought relief to the party and we have taken his exit as a good riddance to bad rubbish. The PDP cannot continue to live with a clueless and colorless character who believes he should be spoon fed after a disastrous outing as a governor.”

According to Fayose, Oni had lobbied the leadership of PDP at the top to be made a minister or a senator, attributing the sudden change of gear by Oni to the refusal of the party to accede to his request, claiming “we believe that the inability of the PDP to accede to his request of being made a minister or senator was responsible for his latest action.”

On the alleged infiltration of INEC, he alleged that each voter card was being bought at N5, 000 and that 35, 000 had been bought from voters as at yesterday.

Fayose claimed the massive purchase of voters’ cards was meant to boost APC performance in the election and alleged that the governor Fayemi had recruited 200 fake election monitors called “Democracy Vanguard” as parts of its rigging strategies.

According to him, the fake monitors were currently being trained at Ikogosi Warm Spring, allegedly under the supervision of a top government official, saying “these fake monitors are to be deployed to the field on the day of the election to induce voters while queuing to vote.”

The PDP governorship candidate urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to reject the registration of the “Democracy Vanguard” as part of its election observers.

Reacting to the allegations, Fayemi through the spokesperson, Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation, Dimeji Daniels, dismissed them as a tissue of lies, noting that it was Fayose’s known strategy to accuse people of the evil he was planning to unleash.

He claimed that it was the PDP that was currently going about offering people money to copy the Voter Identification Number, VIN, on their voters’ cards in a bid to clone the cards, saying the “The plan is to distribute the cards to PDP thugs who would then present them for use at polling units and upon discovering that they are fake, they would start to make trouble to prevent those who have legitimate cards from voting.

This is part of PDP’s plans to ensure that election results are cancelled in some council areas and the whole election declared inconclusive. Their plan is to then rig the subsequent supplementary election in favour of the PDP candidate, Ayodele Fayose.”FORMER
