Rape!Police gives new tips to avoid being Raped

The Commissioner of Police in Plateau, Mr Chris Olakpe, on Wednesday advised parents and guardians to adopt strategies to protect their daughters against rape.

Olakpe told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos that the number of rape cases in the state was rising and parents needed to take proactive measures to safeguard their daughters.

“The parents as the custodians of their daughters should always monitor them while at home to know their whereabouts.

“The mothers should strive hard to teach their female wards the virtues of leading a simple life that will not attract any regrets.

“Parents should caution their under aged daughters against living ostentatious life that will expose them to the evil machinations of men.

“The underage female wards should be discouraged from collecting unsolicited gifts from other youths and men.

“They should also be discouraged from soliciting gifts from youths and men as it can be a conduit pipe for rape,’’ Olakpe said.

The commissioner called on religious and opinion leaders to help in the efforts by preaching against the increasing incidents of rape in the society.

He appealed to the state House of Assembly to enact a law that would provide severe punishment for rapists.

The commissioner also appealed to members of the public to always pass vital information about the activities of rapists to the police
