Isiyaka Yusuf Onimisi, who live-twitted the March 30th attempted jailbreak at the State Security Service headquarter with the twitter handle @ciaxon, has been released after 12 days in captivity, his uncle, Mahmud Yakub, has said.
Yakub, who spoke to Daily Trust, through phone, said he was released last night, but couldn’t say who released him.
The news of release of Isiyaka Yusuf Onimisi came in when activists had already started mobilising for a nationawide protest calling for his freedom wih the hashtag #freeCiaxon.
Politicians like former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, former World Bank Vice-President, Oby Ezekwesili and former FCT minister, Nasir El-Rufai, had called for his release after Amnesty International raised the alarm that the detained Citizen Reporter was at a risk of extra-judicial killing.
When contacted yesterday, the spokesman of the Department of State Security Service (DSSS),Marylin Ogar, had declined to comment on whether the service had Isiyaka Yusuf with it or not.
There had been fear that he might have been murdered by his captors after a story that alleged that he was beaten up after his arrest yeasterday.
In a short video clip released Lawal Haruna with the twitter handle @lawalharuna, Isiyaka Yusuf said “Wetin I want talk. I am just tired.”
Why he was arressted
Though security sources said he had been arrested on suspicion of link with Boko Haram, activist believe his arrest might be connected to one of his twits that suggest extra-judicial killing: “Tho I couldn’t take a clear picx! But one of the attackers is caught and shot! Not confirmed dead yet!”
