The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State is set to suffer another setback as a stalwart of the party, Brig-Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd) and his supporters are threatening to jettison the party for the ruling party Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A stalwart of the APC, Mr. Markus Gundiri, had at the weekend defected to the PDP.
The interim Treasurer of APC in the state and an ardent supporter of Marwa, Alhaji Musa Kama, revealed that the supporters of the former Lagos State military governor might dump the APC for the PDP if the injustice and impunity in the party in the state persists.
Kamale told journalists in Yola that he was speaking on behalf of Marwa and other aggrieved stakeholders of the party who complained that they were not comfortable with the undemocratic practices and impunity prevailing in the party
He said as long as illegality and injustice would continue to persist in the APC, they would leave the party with other stakeholders.
“Enough is enough, we will not continue working with Governor Murtala Nyako who does not believe in democratic norms and tenets,” he said.
Kamale lamented that the level of impunity perpetrated by the new members who defected from the PDP with Governor Nyako was serious.
According to him, the so-called task force put in place by the new PDP has not been dissolved by the state Interim Management Committee (SIMC), adding that the SIMC itself had been turned to a one-man show.
He alleged that councils chairmen in five local government areas had hijacked registration materials from the authentic supervisors adding that “and finally as I am taking to you, the allowances and transport fare for the registrations supervisors and the registration officers who carried out the registration exercises in the state are yet to be paid.”
Kamale said if this type of impurity could be perpetrated during registration exercise, what should be expected during the forthcoming congresses is better imagined.
“This people that come from the new PDP with Nyako have shown us that there is no way a leopard can change his spot with the kind of impunity they brought to the APC again.
Kamale, who also reacted to the defection of Markus Gundiri, said Gundiri had made a wise decision because internal democracy was lacking in the formation of the APC.
“Many things have been happening since our unification meeting. We have discussed the issue of being fair to all sides, but up till now, some members are being treated like outcasts. So you cannot blame anybody for defecting to the PDP and if these things continue in the congresses, no one can guarantee the continued stay of some of our members in the party,” he said.
In similar development, a former House of Representatives member for Yola North and South, Hon. Saad Tahiru, has tendered his resignation letter as a member of the APC.
