THE Chairman of Labour Party in Ekiti State, Barr Akinbowale Omole, has called on politicians and the media to be vigilant and not to allow themselves to be used in misleading the public and heating up the polity by the paid agent of the Governor Kayode Fayemi administration pretending to be aggrieved members of the Labour Party. In their desperation, these elements have chosen to deliberately misinterpret the Court ruling to suit their desires, and saying, doing so could rubbish the temple of justice.
Condemning a newspaper report that he had been barred from parading himself as the Chairman of the party, threatening to file a contempt proceeding against one Com Onile Adams for deliberately misleading some Newspapers to misinterpret the interim Court ruling.
He dispelled the insinuation milling rounds that a High Court in Ado Ekiti has barred him from holding forth as the leader of the party in the State, saying it was the handiwork of the ruling All Progressive Congress in collaboration with some former members of Labour Party .
Omole said what some Newspapers had written concerning the ruling delivered on Friday, February 14 by Justice Cornelius Akintayo of the Ekiti State High Court were fabricated lies, capable of ridiculing the sanctity of the rule of law.
He was reacting to a suit filed by one Onile Adams against his ascension onto the chairmanship position of the party, claiming that Omole was not properly elected the leader of the party in consonance with the party’s constitution.
Omole said the report that he had been restrained from acting as the Chairman of the LP in the State by a Court ruling was borne out of ignorance and desperate attempt to ridicule a lawfully constituted Court.
He said, “Justice Akintayo’s ruling was very explicit . What he said was that “I have considered the submissions of counsel and circumstances of this case. I have noted that all the parties were served with originating summons and motion on notice.
“I am of the view , however, that the Court should not take the motion on notice today despite the abnormalities pointed out from the letter of Counsel who says he is sick to come and partake in the hearing of the motion on notice in the interest of fair hearing and justice.
“I hold a firm view that in order to protect the res, subject matter of this case both parties should maintain the status quo in this case as at today pending the hearing on motion on Notice”, Justice Akintayo concluded.
Omole queried his adversaries to point out where in the ruling the Judge had barred him from acting as the chairman of the party.
He added that what the Judge said was that the status quo as at February 14, be maintained “and since I have been sworn-in as the interim Chairman of the party since January 2014, obviously the status quo could only mean my legal recognition to continue to function in that position and, in doing so, to continue to discharge the responsibilities of my office.
Omole said all Nigerians owe it a duty to protect the temple of justice as the last hope of the common man, saying nobody should be allowed to desecrate the Court under any guise.
“It is on this note that we are going to file contempt proceedings for deliberately misinforming and misleading the public. They had ridiculed the Court by misinterpreting a Court ruling that was clear and understandable to all parties”.
