The Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday reclaimed the majority leadership of the House of Representatives following the defection of 5 legislators from the All Progressives Congress.
It will be recalled that the APC became the majority party last December after the defection of 37 PDP members into its fold, giving it a total of 172 legislators. With the latest development however, the membership of the APC has dropped to 168 while the PDP has a total of 178 members. The defection of a member of the PDP to APC on Tuesday did not in any way change the situation.
The Reps who defected to the PDP are Honourables Umar Bature (Sokoto), Lawan Shehu-Bichi (Kano), Ibrahim Shehu-Gusua (Zamfara) and Abdulsalam Asamu (Kano) as well as Sani Dangaladima (Zamfara).
Honourable Isa Ashiru from Kaduna State however defected from the APC to PDP.
Letters written by the lawmakers to inform the House to inform the House about their defection were read by the Speaker of the House, Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
Members of the PDP were obviously elated as many of them took turns to shake hands with Hon Mulikat Akande Adeola, the Majority Leader.
