The National Council of State meeting yesterday at Aso rock Abuja was preceded by a mild drama involving Governors Nyako and Orji over the sitting arrangement made for the participants in the council chambers of the State House.
The arrangement had been made in alphabetical order, which placed Adamawa, Akwa Ibom and Abia in contiguous positions, but Nyako protested as he did not want to sit close to Orji “for fear of being poisoned.”
But in what appeared to be a joke, Orji wondered why he would poison Nyako at this time.
The exchange goes thus:
Nyako: “I am telling you, don’t poison me here. I am not comfortable with you here. If anything happens to me here, walahi, my people will take you to court.”
Orji: “For how many years have we been sitting together? Is it this zero hour that I would poison you?
Nyako: “Who knows?”
Governor Martins Elechi joined at this point and Nyako directed the following remarks at him.
“I am just warning him not to poison me. Is there any law that says we should sit down together?”
But when the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Ayim, offered Nyako another seat, he chose to remain in the original position reserved for him.
The meeting started at about 10.45 a.m and ended at about 5.15 p.m.
