President Goodluck Jonathan has sent the names of 12 would-be ministers to the Senate for confirmation.
Top on the list of would-be ministers are former National Security Adviser, retired General Mohammed Aliyu Gusau; Nigeria’s former Ambassador to Ghana, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro; and a former Governor of Adamawa State, Boni Haruna.
Aliyu is the representative of Zamfara State, while Obanikoro is from Lagos State.
The list, read on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday by the President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, also included Hon. Mohammed Wakil from Borno State, Alhaji Abduljelili Oyewale Adesiyan from Osun State, Ambassador Aminu Wali from Kano State, Hadjia Jamilia Salik from Kano State, Akon Etim Eyakenyi from Akwa Ibom State, Lawrencia Labaran Mallam from Kaduna State, Dr T. W. Danagogo from Rivers State, Asabe Asmau Ahmed from Niger State and Dr. Khaliru Alhassan from Sokoto State.
Gusau, 70, has been in and out of government since his retirement as the Director General of the notorious Nigeria Security Organisation.
He served in the governments of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Jonathan as NSA.
His exit from Jonathan’s government was less than cordial as he sought then to become the president of the country.
Jonathan eventually won the presidential election in 2011.
It is believed that Gusau, on confirmation, will be sent to the Ministry of Defence.
