How true is that you have been married to the current Chairman of Surulere Local Government, Hon. Tajudeen Oriyomi Ajide
First, I am Princess Adetola Oyekan-Ajide. I am the 16 chld of the late Oba Adeyinka Oyekan of Lagos.
Yes, Hon. Ajide and I have been together for over 27 years now. Our first child is 25years old; her name is Zainab Oyindamola while our 2nd child, Olanre is 19 years old. We use to be a couple but right now, we have been separated by his own whims and caprices.
Are the children living with him or with you?
They reside with me in the United Kingdom.
How did you meet Hon. Ajide and what went wrong between both of you?
I met hin n the early 80s, 1984 to be precise. Then I was very young and we started dating. I met him through my half brother, Chief Ayodele Oyekan, the Bajulaiye of Lagos. My brother used to run a football league then at Isale Eko and my husband happened to be one of his boys. One day, he came to Iga-dungaran and saw me. He told my brother that he loved me and we started the relationship from there.
We faced lots of challenges and we were able to surmount them all. At a time we were able to travel out of the country, we relocated to London in 1996 and there we started a family. We started having children and our relationship blossomed.
At what point did he plan to relocate to Nigeria?
We actually wanted to start a life in United Kingdom and maybe come back later. But he often came around from time-to-time to see things for himself in Nigeria while I stayed back taking care of the children. I am into Child Care and Teenage Development in London.
He was very passionate about Nigeria and going into politics and at that time, my father was able to pull strings for him and eventually launched him into the mainstream of Lagos politics. He was close to some members of my family and that really worked for him. He started by becoming the Vice Chairman of the Local Government Area for about 4 years under Dr. Folami.
But before then, I started hearing all sorts of things about him but due to the unconditional love I had for him, I just chose to ignore them. Since he became Chairman of the Surulere Local Government Area, it has been pretty difficult for me to see him. I tried contracting him but it has been very difficult.
Even some members of my family have called him to talk about the issue of tactical separation and see if we can proceed with a divorce but all fell on deaf ears. It’s been about 4 years since he dumped the relationship, leaving me to my fate.
What really triggered the crisis in your marriage?
I really don’t want to talk about that. Every marriage has its own ups and downs and ours is not an exception. Yes, we had many good and bad times but that was never a case to have and any time I asked, he denied and I took it to be the truth because I loved him.
