Gov Amosun”s 2nd Chief of staff in 20months Resigns

Chief of Staff to Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, Ambassador Emmanuel Ademola Ogunnaike, has resigned.

The former Nigerian envoy to Singapore, who was appointed in March, resigned his appointment about two weeks ago, according to authoritative sources.

we gathered that Ogunnaike had already tendered his resignation letter to the governor, citing “medical reasons” for his decision.

The resignation came about nine months after a top executive of Coca Cola International, Mr. Olusegun Ogunsanya, rejected his appointment as Chief of Staff by the governor.

Ogunsanya on June 12, 2011 failed to assume the position, citing preference for his multi-national appointment. Following the “setback,” Amosun on March 14, 2012 made another choice in the person of a career foreign service officer.

But after about eight months in the saddle, Ogunnaike, who had served in Nigeria’s foreign missions in Germany, Poland, Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Sweden and Zambia, quit from the Chief of Staff’s position.

Ogunnaike, a graduate of Psychology from the University of Lagos, had a Master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Ibadan.

Confirming the development, sources close to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)-led administration told the Nigerian Compass in Abeokuta that the governor’s “henchman” had voluntarily resigned.

“Ambassador Ogunnaike resigned two weeks ago on medical grounds. The resignation takes effect from December and the governor is expected to name another person to fill the vacant position,” a source said yesterday.

It could not be ascertained at press time how soon Amosun would name another Chief of Staff.
