A member of the National Youths Serving Corps in Kwara State is among three men being currently interrogated by men of the state police command over their alleged involvement in an armed robbery operation during the week.

“Sources said the corps member, (names withheld) and his gang had stormed a big telecoms accessory shop along Taiwo Road Ilorin metropolis and robbed both customers and the staff at gunpoint.

“The operation according to investigation lasted about 30 minutes during which, the criminals collected money, phones and accessories running into millions of naira from customers and the staff before they bolted away in a waiting Toyota saloon car.

“But the suspects ran out of luck when some of the victims raised alarm pointing at the get-away car. The development was said to have drawn the attention of passers by who pursued the suspects. When the chase got too hot, the hoodlums were said to have jumped out of the get-away car but were eventually nabbed and taken to the “A” Division police station.

“They were subsequently handed over to members of Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) where investigators discovered that the the leader of the gang is a member of the NYSC serving in Ira, a village in Irepodun Council Area of the state.

“Police spokesman for the state, Mr. Olufemi Fabode confirmed the incident but promised to give full details to newsmen later at the end of detailed investigation.

“However, Kwara State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Ezisse Ezekwe said her office was yet to be informed of the incident as at the time of filing this report.“”I’m expecting the police commissioner to brief me of the incident officially before I can make any comment”, she said yesterday.
