SECURITY operatives yesterday, apprehended three persons in the Ughelli metropolis, Delta State for their alleged involvement in the rape of a prostitute.
It was gathered that the suspected rapists were arrested by members of the Ughelli vigilante group at about 3am and handed over to the police in the Ughelli ‘A’ division after the prostitute escaped from the clutches of her attackers.
Leader of the vigilance team, Mr. Monday Owhesiri, while addressing newsmen on the incident, said one of the suspected rapists had invited the prostitute from a brothel at Emosivwe Street to his residence at Iwhrekpokpor Road after they agreed on a fee.
He said on arrival at his residence, the supposed customer invited five of his friends with whom he threatened the prostitute with broken bottles before they unleashed the dastardly act on her, adding that two of the suspected rapists were brothers.
Speaking further, Owhesiri stated that the prostitute fled into the street stark naked and met with a street guard in the area who took compassion on her and provided her with a wrapper. He said the street guard alerted the vigilance team who proceeded to make the arrest.
Explaining that three of the suspected rapists had escaped before their arrival, he said one of the boys was found in the house while the two others who are brothers were arrested at their mother’s apartment where they got into through a hole they had burst in the ceiling. He said a gun-like wooden item said to have been carved by one of them who is a carpenter was found in the ceiling.
