For former Big Brother Africa winner, Uti Nwachukwu, turning 30 is not just about having an over-the-top party with friends, family and sometimes ‘enemies’, but a time to reflect on life and how difficult life is for others.T his he proved when he hosted 67 widows at the Calabar Hall at Surulere, Lagos last Friday.
The star has arguably had a very good run of fame and fortune these past few years especially after winning the very popular reality show, Big Brother Africa, a continental platform that brings some of the continent’s finest together under one roof for a period of 90 days with a mouth-watering prize money to go with it.
The celebrant showed up in no time to a resounding applause. Straightaway, he greeted his guests who were the widows and headed for the red carpet where the picture splash took place. He was also accompanied by his Sister Onah, close friend, Alex Ekubo, actress Meg Otanwa, singer Keffi, MC Ice Water, Michael Nwachukwu, Aneke twins and others as they posed with the celebrant on the red carpet. The event started right on time and had in attendance, the 67 widows all dressed in branded polo shirts designed charitably by THOTS ON TEES all bearing the name and picture of the celebrant.
There were lots of food and drinks made available to all seated Widows, guests & journalists from all walks of life were there. The paparazzi were also there for a picture splash.
Coincidentally, the celebrant hosted 67 widows because his lovely mother happens to be 67 years old. He later cut his birthday cake with the widows and lots of gift items were presented to them at the end of the event which included cookers, cartons of noodles, Ankara fabrics, bags of rice and bottles of oil (surprising donated by star actress Tonto amongst other valuable items.
‘’There is need to recognize widows like these and give them all the support they need at all times. This is why I have allowed the press in, not just to announce it, but so that people who are bigger, richer and more influential than me will hopefully emulate this on a much bigger scale because some people have things to give but don’t know how to. I wish to thank Martini, Ify Okeke, Joy Sillo, president of his fan club (UFC) Oby Emeka, Pat Awele and Tonto Dike’’.
Martini hosted friends and fans later in the night at Piccolo Mondo with stars like Tiwa Savage, Freeze, Terry Gee, AY, Freeze and wife, Omoni Oboli, Susan Peters, Nkiru Sylvanus, D’Prince, Munachi Abii, Chelsea Eze, Dipp, Uru Eke, Meg Otanwa tinsel stars-Gbenro Ajibade, Damilola Adegbite, Chris Atoh, Gideon Okeke, Ultimate men; Michael Nwachukwu, Uche Nwazeapu, Remmy Oyekunle and current winner Chris.
