Suicide bombers of the Islamist militant sect Boko Haram today 30th of July 2012 attacked three police stations in Sokoto metropolis leaving five dead in total. The attacks, according to police authorities, were carried out by suicide bombers suspected to be members of Boko Haram.
THE FIRST ATTACK was targeted at the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 10, Sokoto, killing a police officer who attempted to stop the suicide bomber driving a benz inside the AIG’s office, but was struck by the explosion from the car that he was pursuing, and injuring several other policemen on duty.
THE SECOND BLAST occured when another suicide bomber driving a Volkswagen Golf hit a ditch before reaching his target, which seemed to be the Police Officers’ Wives shops adjacent to Unguwar Rogo Police station. It is reported that a lady hair dresser who was around the area was also killed in the process.
Over 20 people around the explosion scenes suffered different category of injuries, including burns, and were rushed to area hospitals. Some of them were admitted at the Specialist Hospital and Usman Dan Fodio University Teaching Hospital.
THE THIRD ATTACK happened this evening when gunmen riding on motorbikes opened fired on the Arkilla police station near a Mobile police barrack in Sokoto at 6:30 PM Nigerian time.
Sources report that an officer was killed in the drive-by attack. The gunmen fled on their motorbike before reinforcement could be called in from the MOPOL barrack nearby.
