NaijaHottestgist has just gathered that on saturday 29th of July 2012, The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) Student Affairs Department, was set ablaze by unidentified persons.
We are told that that the persons responsible used petrol to start the fire, and it destroyed property worth millions of Naira, including vital documents computers, and other important equipments .
“If not for the quick intervention of fire fighters from Nsukka office of Enugu State Fire Service, the fire could have spread to other buildings close to the student affairs department.
“UNN security has cordoned off the area to bar people from entering the place,” the eye witness said
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof Malachy Okweze, confirmed the incident, and said the fire was the handiwork of detractors who were not happy with numerous achievements of Prof Bartho Okolo, the Vice-chancellor.
“The university will do everything to fish out the perpetrators of that evil act, the actions of the detractors will not deter the present university administration from continuing with its good work,” he said
The Police Public Relations Officer in Enugu State, Mr Ebere Amarizu, also confirmed the incident and said the police had commenced investigation into the matter.
No causalities or loss of life has been reported.
