Army Court fines colonel and Sergeant arrested by Gov Fashola N25,000 for using BRT lane in Lagos

Last week we informed you about two army personnel apprehended by Gov. Fashola as they  were driving along the BRT lane in their Army Green Peugeot 406 with registration number BO1150NA. Things have now taken a new turn as the Nigerian Army has decided to discipline the officials caught breaking the law in their own way.

Yesterday, Tuesday 24th of July 2012 a Court Marshal (a court established by law, used by the Nigerian Army to instil discipline in its men and officers.) consisting of a seven-man panel of senior army personnel, to court martial four senior officers and seven other officers was inaugurated. The officers  were accused of various offenses ranging from murder to misappropriation of funds.

The Nigerian Army  during the inauguration on Tuesday fined Col. Kayode Yusuf and Staff Sergeant Aliu Adeomi, N25, 000 for violating the  Lagos State Bus Route Transport law on July17.   The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division, Maj.-Gen. Kenneth Minimah, gave the order while instituting the court martial against 13 army personnel.

Minimah said that the fine would serve as a deterrent to others, charging other soldiers to obey the laws of  the state. He concluded on the matter by stating that no military personnel is above the the laws of the the state and Nigeria in general.
