More than 100 People burn in Rivers State Tanker Explosion

More than 100 people got burnt from a tanker explosion that just occurred  Ron Ahoada – Mbiama on the East-West road in Rivers state today 12 July 2012, around noon.

Sources tell us the vehicle did not immediately burst into flames so people rushed to scoop up the fuel. Unfortunately, the tanker exploded, burning many to death and leaving more causalities.

FRSC Sector Commander for Rivers State, Dr. Kayode Olagunju,  stated that casualty figures on the Okobe tanker accident on Ahoada – Mbiama on the East-West road in Rivers state are 93 dead(on the spot -burnt), 2 died in the hospital, making 95 deaths, while 18 persons were injured.

He also said that four vehicles, (1 tanker, 1 Toyota corolla saloon, 1 hummer bus and 1 Mitshibushi bus) and 34 motorcycles were burnt.

A mass burial for those burnt beyond recognition will take place soon.
