Fifty-year-old Kareem Hassan, who hails from Oyo State, was arrested while trying to dupe Mr. Lance Musa Elakama, the Chairman of Oak Plastics Industries at Isheri Area, Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.
Dressed in Air Force uniform, he came to the premises of the company to dupe the Chairman.
He had earlier visited the company three weeks ago, seeking to see him.
Then, he had requested to see the Chairman but was told by the Front Desk Officer that the boss was not around and arranged for him to speak with the Personal Assistant, not knowing that he was on to the Chairman.
He introduced himself as a staff of the Presidency and requested for financial assistance which was not granted immediately. He was told to return on a later date.
Before he left, the Chairman asked him if he knew the Chief Of Staff to the President, Mike Oghiadomhe, and he said he did not.
His response elicited suspicion that he was a fraudster since virtually all officers that work in the Presidency are expected to know Oghiadomhe.
When he returned yesterday, the mobile policemen on duty tried to interrogate him. He then started bragging, pretending to call someone at the Presidency, even threatening to deal with his interrogators.
Perceiving that he was in danger, he tried to escape by jumping the fence to the canal behind the company. He was arrested immediately.
Kareem said he was in the company because he needed money to repair his car.
The company’s Consultant, Mr. Martins Iroya, confirmed the arrest.
Ral Okala Emmanuel, a mobile police officer on duty, said he arrested the fraudster. Kareem was later taken to a nearby police station.
