Controversies have surrounded the termination of the service of a staff of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital (LAUTECHTH), Mrs Basirat Jimoh.
Jimoh was allegedly sacked orally by management of the hospital without any letter to back the termination of her service, as a worker of the hospital. A pro-democracy and human rights group, the Committee for Democracy and Rights of the People (CDRP) has decried what it called “illegal” termination of Jimoh’s appointment, saying that it was disgusting to know that the management of an enlightened institution could take such a step. According to the CDRP, Jimoh was unlawfully sacked by the authority of the hospital on July 26, 2010, on the ground that she allegedly used fake National Diploma result to apply for conversion and upgrading of her service in the hospital.
Jimoh was employed with her West African Examination Council (WAEC-O Level result) as health attendant at the Nursing Department of the hospital on December 29, 2005, just as her appointment was confirmed by the hospital management on July 09, 2008. The appointment and confirmation of appointment letters were signed by Mr A.J Fabule and Mr G.D Oyeniran respectively on behalf of the Chief Medical Director.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday in Osogbo, the Chairman of the CDRP in Osun State, Comrade Kamoru Adeoti, said Jimoh’s ordeal, began when she applied for conversion and upgrading of service with her ND result obtained from Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
The LAUTECH management, according to Adeoti, turned down Jimoh’s application and terminated her service on the ground that the ND result she tendered was fake, haven verified the result from OSPOLY management.
Jimoh was sacked verbally and there was no letter to back the termination of her service from the LAUTECH management, said Adeoti.
However, a letter addressed to the LAUTECH Chief Medical Director from the office of the Registrar, Osun State Polytechnic, Iree and signed by the Deputy Registrar, Academic, Mr Abiodun Oloyede, authenticated Jimoh’s ND result, saying that she collected her “authentic” result on March 29, 2007.
The letter dated April 12, 2012 said the Jimoh’s authentic ND result was different from the Notification of ND result earlier presented to the institution management for verification on June 29, 2010.
According to the letter, the earlier presented notification of ND result was fake, as it was not dated, no certificate number and that there was scanned passport on the result, contrary to the usual practice of the school management.
The CDRP accused the LAUTECH management of forging the earlier presented ND result purportedly owned by Jimoh to the OSPOLY management for verification in a bid to indict her, saying that Jimoh never forged her ND result. The group also accused the management of the hospital of collecting Jimoh’s salary after she had been purportedly sacked. Despite the confirmation of her ND result, CDRP alleged that the LAUTECH management has been harassing Jimoh with policemen with a view of arresting her for using fake ND result.
Demanding proper investigation into the matter, CDRP called for the arrest of the Chief Medical Director of LAUTECH, Professor Solomon Badiora, the Director of Administration, Mr George Oyeniran and Mrs BolanleAlo, for allegedly forging the ND result purportedly presented by Jimoh.
The group also urged the state Commissioner of Police, Mrs Kalafite Adeyemi to investigate those who collected Jimoh’s salary after she had been sacked, and that she should caution her men from being partial on the matter.
