How Fmr VP ATIKU INTERVENES IN THE LAWAN CASE,GETS HIM BAIL

The Nigeria Police in Abuja finally gave the embattled lawmaker and chairman of the House of Representatives committee that probed the fuel subsidy, Farouk Lawan, a breather Saturday evening allowing him to go home on an administrative bail after holding him in police cell for 48 hours.

On tuesday 12th of June Femi Otedola went to the police, stated his side of the story and was allowed to go home. The lawmaker on the other hand who had avoided the police since the scandal broke finally went to their headquarters on Thursday 14th June with four of  his lawyers including Isreal Olorundare(SAN) and Sam Ologunorisa(SAN). he was taken upstairs for interrogations, while his lawyers were asked to remain downstairs, and were there for 7 hours waiting endlessly before they were informed that Lawan would remain in police custody. All  protests from his lawyers for bail was refused and fell on deaf ears.

It took the intercession of the former vice President Atiku who made a call to the Inspector general of police and appealed to him that the offence was a bailable one and that Lawan was entitled to bail. He also made a call to his personal lawyer Rikki Tafa who then moved in to bail out Lawan on saturday 16th of June. The lawmaker was granted bail and would be charged to court on monday 18th June.

It is said however that the former Vice President took interest in the case because it is believed that the whole bribery scandal is an attempt from the current president G.E.J to rubbish the integrity of the Notherners throught the Law maker Farouk Lawan who is highly regarded in the North. Another conspiacy theory has it that Atiku intervened because he believes Olusegun Obasanjo another fomer president of Nigeria is behind the scandal and setup of Farouk Lawan whom he has a vendetta against for two reasons: First is that Lawan is said to have facilitated the impeachment of former senator Patricia Eteh, the other reason is that he contravened Obasanjo’s choice of one honourable Akande to become the speaker of the house after the exit of Dimeji Bankole.
